I love the combination of deep blues and rich reds. The colour combination never fails to attract me. 

I have some delicious farm strawberries that drip red juice as you bite into them and they are not going to last a day in this house (they are already almost finished after just one breakfast) so a quick painting with just one...and a little flash of blue to enhance the colour.

Thank you Kate for all the beautiful roses...I am so blessed with your kindness! 

Kate paints every Tuesday in one of my studio painting classes and knowing how much I love roses, she brings me a beautiful bloom each week from her treasured rose garden! How lucky am I? Besides having beautiful roses to brighten up my studio and beautiful reference material to photograph, I also always have something beautiful on hand to paint!

I am a real pushover for beautiful fresh flowers and would ashamedly have them in every room in my house! Mothers Day is this Sunday in South Africa and if you were planning on spoiling your Mum with some fresh flowers, why not give her a little floral painting....flowers that would last a lifetime. Now I don't need to tell you how many floral paintings hang in my house....(I would be ashamed to admit) but there is always room for one more!

We welcome in May with a public holiday...a good way to start the new month! Especially after April which is always quite a busy month with 5 family birthdays....2 of those being my children! Trying to remain as sugar-free as possible with so many birthdays has been a challenge! So a little birthday cupcake to end off a month of birthdays....

My weekly bunch from Sue Harding, a local florist/floral artist who takes orders for weekly bunches of flowers. She let's you know what the flowers are for the week and you can collect your weekly bunch from her....just in time for beautiful flowers for the weekend! You can find her page on Facebook or ask to be added to her whatsapp group (she usually sends an image of what the weekly flowers are). Buying beautiful blooms to full my house is my one self indulgent treat!

Morning light #688

The light this morning was amazing. We look out over the sea and on mornings like this morning I am so grateful for our beautiful view of the East Coast. It is still unusually hot for this time of year and I am hoping we get some cooler weather soon. Our April sunrises are usually pink, orange and fiery but this morning the sky shone with pure white light....tell tale signs of another very warm day on the East Coast. Happy Monday everyone...not quite sure how the weekend disappeared so fast!

Happy Friday from me to you! I hope you have a fabulous weekend. My baby girl (not so baby anymore, but always MY baby) is turning 13 tomorrow so we have a weekend of celebrations ahead! We now officially only have teenagers in the house....I can't believe it!

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on various social media platforms yesterday....it was wonderful to know that so many of you had missed seeing a little daily painting....it really warmed my heart...thank you and much love... x Heidi

HELLO!! I have so missed all the sharing that happens on this page and the social media platforms that Paintings in the post shares to! I have been quite quiet, I know, but after finishing off a few commissions, I had to tackle some long overdue admin work which required no distractions (i.e. no painting) !! Thank goodness I am NOT an accountant but maybe then I wouldn't land myself in the kind of pickle that requires a break from painting to focus and sort out all the admin side of running my own business. I wish with all my heart that I had a magic fairy that would just take care of all those horrible admin chores which quite frankly is without a doubt MY WORST chore to do! I just want to paint...and so I have had to force myself to abandon my easel and slave away at my desk for a while to play catch up! That will teach me for leaving it all and wishing for non-existing magic fairies (I can dream). 

But today I am back at my easel to do a little daily painting....and painting what I want to paint and if truth be told, feeling a little rusty too! It just confirms for me the benefit of painting daily....it's good to be back!
