Floral brooch #214
Daily painting #214. 6"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
I love beautiful brooches, especially old ones and a very special friend gave me this beautiful antique brooch! It has fine detail around the edges and hand painted flowers on the face of the brooch. It is so charming and delicate and even more special because of the kind friend that gave it to me!

Studio time #213
Daily painting #213. 4"x6" oil on primed canvas panel SOLD
Some quality time in my studio today! I am working on a canvas that is 2m x 1.2 m.....a huge contrast to the little 10cm by 15 cm canvases for the daily paintings! Talk about extremes! Swopping my little brushes for some huge brushes....and great big dollops of juicy paint! I think I am in heaven.....

Show rose #212
Daily painting #212. 5"x7" oil on primed canvas panel SOLD
A beautiful single rose for my beautiful girl who has danced her heart out in a show this weekend! It has been busy...and she is exhausted (so am I)... But thank goodness she has a week off of school because of all the public holidays. Time to relax, chill with a good book and time for me to spend some quality time in my studio! Other than doing my daily paintings, I haven't had much time for anything else! So well done my little sweetheart....I couldn't have been a prouder mamma this weekend and I know you enjoyed every minute of being on the stage....well done to you!

Brown mushroom #211
Daily painting #211. 5"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
There has been no time to cook fancy or time consuming meals this weekend! I have spent most of the weekend backstage helping at a show my daughter is dancing and acting in. You don't get more simple and delicious than big brown mushrooms grilled with some garlic butter and fresh herbs ....a simple juicy meal! Yum!

Moth No2 #210
Daily painting #210 6"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
Found on the concrete floor in my studio....a beautiful moth. A victim of my black and white cat, Noo-Noo who loves to sleep in my studio! Obviously he lost interest once the poor little moth just lay still and stopped fluttering around....unfortunately for the moth....it was too late!

Birthday rose #206
Daily painting #206. 6"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
On the 23rd of April, tomorrow, when this post goes live....my baby girl will be celebrating her 11th birthday! After 5 grandsons in the Shedlock family, finally 11 years ago a healthy little baby girl arrived. But our joy quickly turned to heartbreak as within 24 hours she had picked up an infection in the hospital which went straight to her lungs and we were told our beautiful baby girl would not make it through the next 24 hours! I don't think I have ever experienced such despair and panic as I watched each breath she took hoping it wouldn't be the last ....anguish like I hope never to experience again! But she is a special soul, sensitive yet strong beyond measure....she never gave up the fight...a brilliant doctor and bucket loads of prayers (actually begging on my part) ....she is still here today and we are so grateful and blessed! Amy Rebecca Shedlock have a special birthday my darling girl.....your birthday will never pass without me feeling huge gratitude....reminding me of just how fragile and precious life can be!
Happy birthday beautiful girl....you always love my floral paintings...so a rose today....in all your favorite colors....

Late afternoon #205
Daily painting #205 5"x7" oil on primed canvas panel SOLD
This afternoon, after what was quite a lazy day, we all decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air. My children both have tests at school this week and had been learning for about an hour, so we all needed to get out of the house for a bit! The walk was therapeutic....the late afternoon sky was just starting to bid the Easter weekend farewell and even my children commented on how beautiful it was! We arrived home just as the last shades of pink were ebbing away....

Boiled eggs, painted eggs, candy eggs, chocolate eggs.....this is all very egg-citing!! Yes, I know.....that is a really corny stupid joke! But not liking eggs at this time of year, could be really problematic! Eggs of every kind remind us of the season of rebirth and by the time this post goes live in the morning, it will be Easter Sunday! So if you and your family celebrate Easter...."Happy Easter to you!" May your day be full of love, remembrance, thankfulness, family and of course a little bit of chocolate!

So there nearly wasn't a daily painting #201!!! Today has been a crazy day ....I taught a class this morning, my son had to get to hockey trials and my daughter had a dress rehearsal for a show she is dancing in next weekend! I seemed to spend most of my afternoon in the car....
I finally had some time to paint some roses in my kitchen.....but I look forward to a long weekend and the pace slooooooowing down a little for a few days! Easter weekend could not have come soon enough! A long weekend that includes lots of chocolate and hot cross buns.....mmmmm.....sounds good to me!

Morning sky #199
Daily painting #199. 4"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
I wake up every morning to the most awesome view in the world! An amazing sunrise view over the Indian Ocean! Thank goodness I am an early bird so I never miss out on Natures amazing display of early morning light and color....I always feel sorry for people who start their day never having witnessed this inspiring sight. A new day is always full of promise and I love my early mornings usually enjoyed with a good cup of coffee (made by my husband....I will be in trouble if I don't add that very important detail!) Two mornings ago the sky was spectacular! Of course it was a morning when I didn't have time to paint, but I did have time to quickly capture a picture so that I could share it with you...this morning the sky wasn't quite as spectacular but it still had moody sweeps of salmon pinks and oranges. How can one not start the day feeling positive, happy and soulful after witnessing the magic of natures paintbrush....

Three limes #198
Daily painting #198. 6"x8" oil on primed canvas panel
I needed some lemons for a chicken recipe the other day but couldn't find any in the shops or at the market. I really need to plant a lemon tree and surround it with barbed wire so that my dogs don't destroy it or dig it up! Anyway, I ended up buying these large limes. I thought they would do as the very little limes are very tart and sour, so I thought these might be a little different. Well, these are just as potent in flavor! I think I need to do some Thai cooking that requires strong lime flavors to use up all my limes!

Daily painting #193. 5"x7" oil on primed canvas panel
Thirteen years ago today a gorgeous little boy came into our lives and we have been blessed and our lives made richer ever since! I became a Mommy, an indescribable honor and privilege. Ross Shedlock, you have taught us how to love beyond measure and as much as we teach you our values as parents, you too teach us so much more through your love, compassion and honest heart. You really are growing into an honorable young man and I could not write a blog post today without wishing you Happy 13th birthday. We look forward to exciting teenage years with you....today has been a day in honor of your birth! Happy birthday my little man xxx

Lunch apple #191
Daily painting #191. 6"x8" oil on primed canvas panel
Back to routine today! My children are back at school after a short break, my art classes started again this evening and life has slipped back into a familiar rhythm. The only downside is having to make up school lunch boxes in the mornings again (in South Africa our children take their own lunches to school, it is not provided by school). So we are off to a good start to our second term....even if I have to think of healthy school lunches to pack before the sun is even up!

Succulent plant #189
Daily painting #189. 6"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
A while ago I raided my mum's garden, taking some beautiful grey green succulent plants to put in some glass jars on my veranda. I love the subtle grey and green tones in the leaves. I have no idea what these plants are called they are similar to a common rock rose but the leaves are not as firm and fat. They are now starting to root in the glass jars and I really should find the time to plant them out into the garden....only problem is my dogs would have them uprooted and chewed up within a day!

Cloud study #188
Daily painting #188. 6"x8" oil on primed canvas panel
Did you ever lie on the ground as a child and look up at the sky and try to find pictures in the passing clouds? My kids love to do that....and so do I! I love observing the shapes, tones and colors in the sky....and as you all know, I love painting it! The sky can show such calm and yet it can also be full of energy. I always find such emotion in the sky (my husband looks sideways at me when I say this....so you too would be forgiven for thinking I am crazy hahaha!). Today has been the last day of holidays. After the weekend my children are back at school and my art classes start up again next week so it was good to take some time out to relax today, take it slow ....watch the clouds pass by....and test my skills at trying to capture their beauty!

All my clothes are feeling tight! Too much holiday and eating good food (and good wine!). So tonight (and for the next couple of weeks I think!) it is a delicious salad for supper! I love the deep purple tones in these purple salad onions or spring onions.....if I have to eat salad it may as well be a pretty one!

Button mushrooms #185
Daily painting #185. 4"x6" oil on primed canvas panel
My daughter was once told by someone foolish that mushrooms on farms are grown in horse manure (actually they said 'horse poo'). Well my daughter is almost 11 years old and she is yet to let a mushroom pass her lips! She thinks they are awful, although she doesn't ever remember trying one. I have tried to disguise them in food by chopping them really fine but there is no fooling her....she is NOT eating something that she thinks is grown in horse $#£@......
So mushrooms get cooked separately in this house....the rest of us all love them!
