Meet Noo-Noo....the cat with the mustache. He is a special boy who was rescued at 4 weeks old and hand reared and fed by me....he is a special boy indeed! He is my most loyal supporter, adoring fan (look at those eyes)  and my most constant studio companion....xxx

Anniversary orchid #23

Daily painting #23  6"x6"oil painting on primed canvas board. SOLD

Instead of a bunch of flowers, my husband gave me this beautiful orchid for our anniversary. It is the most intense colour....and I have been staring at it for days trying to figure out how much red, pink and purple and the mixture thereof....the colour is so very intense .... Hard to recreate such perfection!

Lonely Pear #18

Daily painting #18  5"x7" oil painting on primed canvas board

It has been a busy few days. I am reminded of that by the fact that only one lonely pear is left sitting in the fruit bowl in the kitchen....time to get to the fruit and veg market... One lonely pear will not do!

Rose Trio #17

Daily painting #17  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board SOLD

There has been lots of rose painting in the studio classes lately. Teaching someone to paint a rose is very difficult...they have to learn to feel the shape and fall of the petals, and capture the way the light catches the bloom....I am still a learner with every new rose I paint...I am challenged with every brush stroke to capture that fragility and softness of the rose ....

A lazy Sunday sitting on the veranda with a chilled glass of wine, admiring the orchids that are opening up in the early spring warmth.

Shady trees and sunlight at Merchistan #15

Daily painting #15 5"x7" oil painting on primed canvas board

My son played cricket in Pietermaritzburg today against a school called Merchistan. It is about an hours drive from Durban and if you know anything about cricket, you will know a game can last the entire day! To keep me sane I packed my traveling paintbox, found a shady spot where I could watch my son play cricket and paint at the same time....much to the fascination of the other parents there!!! "Look at that strange mother over there..." I could almost hear them saying as they casually drifted past to glance over at what I was doing.....
The day was fabulous and the cricket bearable, maybe even enjoyable!

Red shoe on blue #14

Daily painting #14  6"x6" oil painting on primed canvas board (SOLD)

I am drawn to red shoes...especially 'little' red shoes. The red shoes have popped up in a few of my paintings ...and I love what a little hint of blue does to make them 'pop' on the canvas!

Early start #13

Daily painting #13  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board

5am wake up call for my children today as early morning swimming training begins at school. But I always like to be awake first...steal some time to enjoy the quiet, drink a good cup of coffee, ponder the day ahead and enjoy some soulful time .... full the soul tank for the day!

Changing light #12

Daily painting #12  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board (SOLD)

Summer is fast approaching and it is starting to get light really early. The early morning is my favorite time of the day...I love the light...the colors...and the spectacle of the fast approaching day as the sun peeps over the horizon to greet us with a dazzle of colour and warmth. I am blessed to be greeted each morning with this....my bedroom veranda overlooks the sea and this is one of the delights of the East Coast...beautiful sunny weather (most days) and glorious sunrises! I had to paint quickly as I chased the changing light and shifting sky...what a way to start the day!!

Sardines #11

Daily painting #11  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board SOLD

My step Dad is Portuguese ...and while I love Portuguese food...I find sardines much more appealing to paint! Cooked on the braai (a common South African method of cooking on a fire...barbecue...over coals not gas) with plenty of garlic lemon and coarse salt and maybe some chilli is how he likes them!

Soft Roses #10

Daily painting #10  6"x6" oil painting on primed canvas board (SOLD)

These beauties are in my entrance hall...a soft, gentle welcome as I walk through the door!

Three Figs #9

Daily Painting #9  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board

YUM!!! Juicy ripe figs...all that's missing is a delicious cheese, a drizzle of honey and perhaps a delicious Cape wine....the perfect evening in!

Miniature Orchid #8

Daily painting #8  4"x6" oil painting on primed canvas board (SOLD)

I found a stall at the Shongweni Farmers market selling cute miniature orchids. The orchids on my veranda are about to flower now that the weather is warming up to nothing short of steamy...so couldn't resist buying a little dinky one to add to the collection!

Lesley's Mushroom #7

Daily painting #7  5"x7" oil painting on primed canvas board

Les paints in one of my Monday evening classes. I gave the ladies a still life task to do in class the other day and Les tackled the muted, yet colorful subtle tones of a large mushroom. She was not going to let me get away with not tackling the tones in a mushroom either! After a few days of "but where is your mushroom?" after every daily painting she saw....I could not resist painting a big "brown" mushroom....for Lesley!

Pretty Pink Protea #6

Daily painting #6  6"x6" oil painting on primed canvas board (SOLD)

I love Proteas....they are a truly South African flower...rustic, colorful, hardy and grow mainly in the Cape but I do know of some small Protea farms here in KwaZulu Natal. I can't resist buying them when I see them at the markets and flower stalls. My love of Proteas' has NOTHING to do with the fact that my husband is a professional cricket coach and the Protea is the Emblem for the South African cricket team....in case you were wondering!!

Fallen Rose in a shot glass #5

Daily painting #5  6"x8" oil painting on primed canvas board. SOLD

After the stormy weather I found this beautiful rose lying on the ground, broken off in the wind! The stem was so short it had to sit in a shot glass of water instead of a vase.... it beckoned to me all day...until I eventually couldn't resist capturing this fallen beauty!
